More Than an Officiant — A True Spiritual Presence in Our Marriage Journey

Rev. Keaton was so much more than the person who officiated our wedding ceremony. She had walked with us through premarital counseling before our wedding day, and that relationship made an extraordinary difference. She listened to us, learned who we were individually and as a couple, understood the role our faith plays in our relationship, and carried all of that with her into the ceremony. Just as important, she was genuinely collaborative in helping us shape the service. We came to her with particular ideas about the structure, readings, music, personal declarations, vows, and overall feeling we wanted for the ceremony. She brought her own pastoral wisdom and thoughtful suggestions but never made us feel that there was only one “right” way to do it. The result was a ceremony that was deeply personal, spiritually grounded, joyful, and unmistakably ours. There was nothing generic about it. Her words reflected our story, our personalities, our relationship, and the marriage we are trying to build. Our guests could feel that she knew us rather than simply standing before them to perform a ceremony. There were many tears—including ours—but also warmth, laughter, and a genuine sense that everyone present was witnessing something sacred.

Her care for us extended well beyond the ceremony itself. The evening before our wedding, she spent time with us and my Bridal Circle during a very personal ritual of prayer, reflection, and release. Throughout the entire experience, she brought warmth, wisdom, steadiness, humor, and a generosity of spirit that made us feel genuinely supported as we prepared to enter marriage.

She also helped guide portions of our wedding dinner, which brought together family, close friends, and professional colleagues from a range of spiritual backgrounds. I was especially struck by how easily she moved between those spaces. She was able to be authentically herself and honor the faith-centered nature of our marriage without making guests who did not share the same spiritual background feel out of place. That balance—being spiritually grounded while also warm, inclusive, and comfortable with a diverse room—is a real gift.

Because Rev. Keaton knew me before this journey began, I know that our relationship with her was particularly special. But I also believe that the qualities that made our experience so meaningful—her attentiveness, her ability to listen, her flexibility, her spiritual discernment, and the care she takes in understanding the people she is serving—are simply part of who she is.

If you are looking for someone who will do more than read a wedding script—someone who will take seriously the meaning of the commitment you are making, listen carefully to what you envision, and help create a ceremony that truly reflects who you are—I cannot recommend Rev.
